While we are all consumed with the carnival, summer will soon come hot on the heels of spring, bringing with it highly-anticipated festivals and events. Returning for the 12th year this summer is another packed edition of Fengaros Music Village. Happening in July, the FMV moves to a new location this year, taking place in Askas for the first time.
Its programme of workshops, seminars and live performances has just been announced. Get ready for music, art and community vibes to take over another village this summer!
“Although unknown territory to most,” say organisers, “Askas will open its arms to anyone and everyone wishing to further explore their craft. The series of workshops, lectures and concerts will nestle itself in the quaint medieval village for an entirely new experience.”
The Music Village will take place from July 17 to 22 with daily workshops. They are divided into three pillars covering a range of topics within the scope of music and performing arts.
Pillar one includes the Free Vocal Improvisation workshop by Savino Yannatou from Greece, the Tarab workshop by Andys Skordis and Cypriot Traditional Music 101 by Nicoletta Demetriou. Pillar two includes two workshops by facilitators based in the USA and Greece. Panagiotis Andreou will give the Performing in a Band workshop, St Mary will offer The Art of Electronic Production workshop and Jannis Anastasakis will deliver the Effect Devices: A Universe of Sound workshop.

Pillar three includes the workshops Shame on You! By ody icons, Through the Text by Athina Kasiou and Street Photography by Charis Ioannou. Of course, everyone who has already been to an edition of FMV knows that that is not all that happens there. Beyond the workshops, there are parallel actions, concerts and jam sessions that bring together the participants, the public and the village community.
This year, the parallel actions include the FMV Student Collective by Freideriki Tombazou, the Ttavas Artist Residency by FMV and Larnaka 2030 and the Accessibility and Inclusion in the Arts by KoullouMakka.
“From amateurs to established professionals,” conclude organisers, “participants will get to learn, explore and discover. Industry experts from the USA, Greece and Cyprus will conduct workshops ranging from traditional Cypriot music to electronic music production to performing arts to street photography and everything in between. Each day will wrap up with educational concerts, presentations and jam sessions open to all. Six days full of music in a boundless safe environment of creativity and potential.”
