“New atmosphere” for the… benefit of property usurpers

Tatar is irritated that Simon Aykout, who is on trial for the misappropriation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories, is being held in the Central Prisons. He has appealed everywhere to stop the prosecutions and is calling for “international intervention.”
Erdogan also referred to this issue more generally during last Saturday’s ceremony in occupied Nicosia. “They are trying to intimidate investors operating in the ‘TRNC’,” stated the leader of the occupying power.
He too is annoyed because Nicosia is attempting to prevent investments in the occupied territories involving Greek Cypriot properties. These actions affect their plans, which are not only economic but concern the consolidation of the occupation.
Aykout and others being prosecuted are not charged for their ideas. They are not being politically persecuted, but because they are illegally exploiting Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories.
In any other country, such actions would be brought before justice. And this is what is happening with these cases, which the Turks are protesting about.
Ersin Tatar, like his master in Ankara, believes that everything in the occupied territories belongs to them. This is the logic of the conqueror. It is the logic of the plunderer, the robber, the thief. These properties, this land belongs to its owners and neither Erdogan (previously Ozal, Ecevit, etc.), nor Tatar—nor his predecessors installed by the occupying power—have rights to Greek Cypriot properties.
They may occupy the land by military force, but it does not belong to them. Tatar invokes the “new atmosphere” to demand the release of the Turkish-Jewish usurper.
For the occupying side, the “new atmosphere” means that illegality and misappropriation should continue. The “new atmosphere” certainly does not mean ending illegality.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that in the occupied territories, no “progressives” have spoken out against the usurpers, except those who share the views expressed by journalist Sener Levent.
Some in the occupied territories may protest against properties being sold off to foreigners, but not because they are Greek Cypriot properties. They complain because the flow of investors has stopped and development in real estate and land has been affected by the actions of the Republic of Cyprus. As if the properties were theirs.
At the same time, the Israelis are making the same… request, as Aykout is their citizen (he holds multiple passports). They have raised this issue many times with Nicosia.
It was also raised the day before yesterday, during the President of the Republic’s visit to Jerusalem. It is noted that outside the Israeli Presidential Palace, a demonstration was held against the President and Cyprus because the usurper is being detained and tried.
The Republic of Cyprus’s answer is always the same: The judiciary will decide; the Executive does not intervene.
Neither Turkey nor Israel, both occupying powers, are bothered by the misappropriation of Greek Cypriot properties. Turkey planned and is implementing this scheme. Israel is asking for a usurper to be released because he is their citizen.
The Cypriot government has launched a major campaign to stop the misappropriation of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied territories. This will be done by prosecuting usurpers, starting with third-country nationals.
Eventually, the prosecutions will affect Cypriots, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, “traders” of our land. What is happening today should have been done from the beginning. It wasn’t. Better late than never.
The “new atmosphere” that Tatar invokes is of Turkish interpretation. “Recognise the occupation facts so we can all get along fine”. This will not happen. And the various Ayikuts, with their supposed international connections, will remain in prison, if the Court so decides.
