No Plans For Three Party Meeting: Tatar

Restarting talks on the Cyprus issue is not possible unless the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot side are recognised, President Ersin Tatar said, BRTK reported.
He stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side’s position is firm and unchanging, making it clear that there will be no return to discussions about a federal solution.
Tatar said, “No one should expect negotiations to pick up where they left off in Crans-Montana. The search for a federal solution ended there. There’s no common ground to resume talks on the Cyprus issue. Given this, there’s no need for a three-party or any other type of meeting“. He also accused Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides of trying to create a false narrative and dismissed claims of a proposed three-party meeting.
Tatar added, “UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has not extended an invitation for a three party meeting. Even if he did, we would not agree to it under the current circumstances because there’s no basis for such a meeting. Our conditions for starting negotiations are clear—talks cannot begin without acknowledging our sovereign equality and equal international status. The Greeks are playing their usual games, but no invitation has been sent to us. Their goal is to create a false impression and put pressure on the Turkish Cypriot side, but we won’t fall for it. Christodoulides should stop chasing unrealistic goals and face the realities on the island“.
Tatar also pointed out that Christodoulides is consistently trying to create a negative perception of the Turkish Cypriot side, saying, “These efforts are pointless. The Turkish side knows exactly what it wants and is acting in complete coordination with Turkey on the Cyprus issue. We have successfully countered these tactics and will continue to do so“.
Following Tatar’s statement, Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the main opposition party, CTP emphasised that Tatar’s approach, which avoids diplomacy and dialogue, isolates the Turkish Cypriots even further. This is despite the fact that Turkish Cypriots have demonstrated their desire for a solution, he said.
