Odyssey festival to turn Adelaide into a site of celebration for Hellenism

Adelaide is preparing to be taken over by Hellenism as the Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia’s (GOCSA) hosts the upcoming Greek Odyssey Festival next month.
The 17th festival, returns to Adelaide with over 15 events from Friday 4 October – Saturday 2 November 2024 to celebrate all things Greek.
Included in the schedule will be the Greek Film Festival (22-27 October), concerts, paint and sip events, cooking workshops and the inaugural Grattan Street Paniyiri.
Peter Malinauskas, the Premier of South Australia, expressed the state’s pleasure in hosting the festival that honours the proud culture and traditions of Greece.
“We have enjoyed celebrating festivals and special occasions with you over many years and this milestone event is a testament to the enduring spirit, rich culture and strong unity within the community,” the SA Premier said.
Peter Gonis, the GOCSA Acting President, stressed that the festival is about sharing Hellenism with the whole state, not just Greek Australians.
“The Odyssey Greek Festival aims to bring people together and showcase everything we love about our rich culture and heritage to the wider South Australian community,” Gonis said.
“We would like to thank all our sponsors for their ongoing support, and our wonderful staff and volunteers for their hard work and commitment. Every festival is a really big team effort, and we are grateful for the community support we receive”
The festival will kick off with an Opening Night and Art Exhibition on Friday 4 October from 6.30pm at the Olympic Hall, where the winners of the Odyssey Art Prize will also be announced.
Audiences and supporters are welcome to celebrate with special dancing performances from the GOCSA Dance Academy as they indulge in complimentary refreshments and Greek nibbles.
The festival will continue with a series of events for all ages, including:
Cooking & Games Workshop for Kids (9 October), Paint & Sip Sessions hosted by Neoléa (10 and 17 October), Loukoumades with Yiayiades Cooking Workshop (15 October), Diples with Yiayiades Cooking Workshop (16 October), ‘Laiki Psyhi’ Greek Urban Folk Music Concert (19 October), Golden Age of Greek Cinema Movie Screenings (28 & 29 October) and the Grattan Street Paniyiri (2 November ).
