Over 1,000l of petrol from north found in house

The customs department on Saturday found a total of 1,395 litres of petrol which had been smuggled into the Republic from the north in a house.
The petrol was stored in seven large drums and four plastic containers in the house, after a warrant to search it was issued when its owner, a 40-year-old Greek national, had “been involved in theft cases”.
The man admitted that he had transported the petrol from the north with the aim of reselling it in the Republic.
The petrol was seized by the customs department, and the man was arrested.
