A man of Palestinian nationality was arrested on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 16, following an arrest warrant issued by the Special Investigator of the Athens Court of First Instance.
According to reports, the arrest follows a systematic investigation conducted by the Fire Crime Division over the past three months.
The foreign national is accused of starting the fire that broke out on September 7 this year in the Hymettus forest, in the Vyronas area, near Agios Ioannis Karea Avenue.
Authorities managed to identify the suspect thanks to eyewitness testimonies, video footage, and other evidence collected by the Fire Crime Division (DAEE) as part of investigations into three additional arson incidents in the wider area.
