The pressure is all on the “Trifylli” to step up their league campaign after a shaky start, with a tricky meeting against PAOK set up in which victory seems a must.
The Thessaloniki giants are preparing to host Panathinaikos at “Toumba” Stadium on Monday morning for the first derby of the season.
The round four Greek Super League clash marks an important moment for the Greens, with it standing as a pivotal match in which they must showcase their league credentials.
Panathinaikos has had a slow start to the season, struggling in all three of their fixtures against lesser opposition on paper and managing to bag only four points, and that form is something they must overturn immediately if they wish to push for the title.
PAOK, by comparison, comes into the encounter with a perfect league record thus far and a victory over a fellow top side would be an excellent step forward in their premiership defence.
Olympiacos will keep a watchful eye on the outcome, though they will be primarily concerned about their own fixture against Panetolikos at “Karaiskakis” ground.
The Piraeus outfit have started their campaign equally well as PAOK and they will be desperate to ensure another win and preserve their place at the top of the ladder.
Aris travels away to face OFI in a vital clash for the Thessaloniki side which, though unbeaten, has dropped points on two occasions already to weaker teams on paper.
AEK hosts Volos at “Agia Sophia” Stadium on Tuesday morning as they seek to keep on the toes of PAOK and Olympiacos.
Enosi has had a solid start, though an earlier draw with Lamia means they currently sit two points off of first, and so will be extra keen to win with the hope they can gain ground on their fellow rivals.
Lamia takes on Kallithea at home in the round opener on Sunday morning, who will be eager to secure maximum points after having to face AEK and Olympiacos in consecutive games.
Asteras Tripolis competes with Atromitos at home and the Arcadians will be striving to earn a win amid the rumours surrounding their next coach, with legend Claude Makelele heavily linked to take over the role.
Panserraikos faces Levadiakos at home in what looms as an early relegation battle, with the Serres-based club desperate to grab a result after three straight losses.
