The Thessaloniki giants are preparing to go to war with Olympiacos in a huge clash that could have a huge impact on their hopes of defending their league title.
The “red-whites” face PAOK at “Georgios Karaiskakis” Stadium on Monday morning (AEDT) in the Greek Super League’s 24th round, with the visitors having it all to play for.
The Double-headed eagle of the North finds itself eight points behind league leaders Olympiacos, meaning the clash is their best chance to gain some ground and keep their championship dreams alive.
The Piraeus outfit will take comfort in having had a few extra days’ rest compared to PAOK (who played in Romania midweek), and they too will view the game as a great opportunity to strengthen their case as title contenders.
AEK will keep a close eye on the result of that derby, though they will first be fighting for an away win over Asteras Tripolis.
Enosi will need to be mindful of their opponents, who currently occupy sixth place, with nothing less than three points acceptable as we head towards the end of the regular season.
Panathinaikos is similarly set for a must-win clash to keep their title dreams alive, with the Greens playing last-placed Lamia away.
The “Trifylli” especially cannot afford to drop points if they truly wish to stake their claim for their first championship in 15 years.
Aris hosts Panetolikos in what could prove a tricky fixture at “Kleanthis Vikelidis” ground, with the Thessaloniki club looking to press their case for an unlikely but still possible finish in the top four.
Kallithea is preparing for a major must-win home game with OFI on Sunday morning as they strive to get out of the relegation zone.
Levadiakos is set for a well-balanced away meeting with Volos wherein they will be aiming to secure their third straight success.
Atromitos hosts Panserraikos in a game where both clubs will be keen for a triumph after back-to-back league defeats.
