The Mayor of Athens and PASOK leadership candidate, Haris Doukas, has expressed his desire to visit Australia.
This came during a meeting with the president of the Kastoria Association of Melbourne, “Kastoria,” Eleftheria Lalopoulou, who is currently in Greece.
Lalopoulou mentioned that Doukas showed a keen interest in learning more about the Greek-Australian community.
“He expressed his desire to visit us and meet us in person,” she added.
Haris Doukas, currently the Mayor of Athens, also serves as a Professor of Energy and Environmental Policy at the National Technical University of Athens.
His ambitions extend beyond his mayoral role, as he seeks to lead PASOK and ultimately become the Prime Minister of Greece.
In the meantime, PASOK’s leadership race heats up, with six candidates vying for the presidency.
During a recent expanded Central Committee meeting, each candidate presented their political platforms, outlining different visions for the party’s future ahead of the elections on October 6 and 13.
As PASOK’s leadership election approaches, Doukas, alongside other prominent figures, aims to capture the hearts and votes of the party’s base, promising a renewed and forward-looking PASOK that can challenge the ruling New Democracy party.
The coming weeks will be crucial as the candidates intensify their efforts to present their cases to the party’s electorate, ensuring that PASOK’s next leader reflects the true will of its center-left base.
