The Greek community in Perth, Western Australia, marked the National Day of October 28 at the Church of Saint Nektarios earlier this week.
The celebration coincided with the parish’s feast day, bringing together local faithful in a solemn, yet joyous occasion.
The dual celebration highlighted the deep connection between the Greek Orthodox faith and national pride, honouring both Saint Nektarios and the historic anniversary of Greece’s defiance during World War II.
Theophilos Elpidios, Bishop of Perth, presided over the liturgical events, in attendance of Greece’s newly appointed consul, Eleni Georgopoulou.
The day’s proceedings included a memorial service and special prayers, paying tribute to the heroes who fought for Greece’s independence.
Following the church service, the parish community gathered to share in the festive spirit with happenings reflecting the enduring cultural and spiritual ties within Perth’s Greek diaspora.
