Greek-Australian photographer Georgia Politis has been recognised with the Magnify Her NT Mentor & Role Model Award for 2025, marking a milestone in a journey that began in Darwin and has since grown into a creative career defined by integrity, community and heartfelt storytelling.
Born and raised in the Northern Territory, Politis was drawn to photography from an early age, winning her first award in Year 8. In 2016, an entry-level camera gifted by her now-husband reignited that passion. What began as casual family photography soon evolved into a business first under the name In The Lens Photography, before transitioning to Georgia Politis Photography, a brand she says reflects her values “authenticity, timelessness and storytelling”.
“My work is about keeping photography real enhancing who you are, not masking it,” she tells Neos Kosmos.
“Capturing love, capturing you, capturing your story. I’ve worked very hard and tried to lead by example. I’m the first Greek female photographer in Darwin to get this far, and I hope it inspires Greek girls to reach for the stars. When they see one person do it, they know it’s possible.”
Her acceptance speech centred not on achievement, but on vulnerability, acknowledging the self-doubt, challenges and difficult experiences that shaped her.
“I want people to know I’m just like them. Success isn’t about money. It’s the positive impact you make,” she explained.
“When you do something from the heart, it speaks volumes. I stopped worrying about followers, equipment or comparing myself to others. The moment I let go of my mind’s limitations and I just did the work, everything started flowing. People are drawn to authenticity.”

Her Greek identity, she emphasised, played a decisive role in her early career.
“The Greek community opened their arms to me when nobody knew who I was. Volunteering for the Greek Glenti festival was my first step. If it weren’t for them, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. I still volunteer because it’s about giving back to the people who supported you when you had nothing.”
Looking ahead, Politis hopes to take her work across Australia, including Melbourne and Sydney, while continuing to uplift others through her philosophy of service-driven creativity.
For younger women and emerging photographers, her message is clear.
“Be honest. Social media can be fake, and ‘booked out’ doesn’t mean successful. Success is positive impact. Be authentic. Be yourself. It’s okay to not be okay. Even ten years in, there are moments where I still doubt myself. That’s normal.”
What continues to drive her, both inside and beyond her industry, is simple. Authenticity.
“When you genuinely connect with people and do things from the heart, everything grows. Not because of money or followers, but because people feel seen,” she says
