Owners of pleasure boats staged a protest at Larnaca Marina, demanding that the state reduce mooring fees since it took over the marina’s management on May 27.
Protesters marched from the marina to the entrance of Athens Avenue in Finikoudes, symbolically blocking the road and causing temporary traffic congestion.
Members of the Moored Boats Owners Association gathered at the marina, expressing their dissatisfaction with the increased charges and mooring fees imposed by Kition Ocean Holdings.
They demanded a return to the previous rates, claiming that the fees at Larnaca Marina are unjustifiably the highest among all state-managed mooring areas in Cyprus.
The protesters stated that the fee increases, which exceed 50%, were imposed without any corresponding improvements and were being maintained illegally by the Ministry of Transport.
