President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides reportedly supports the full payment of all pension and related benefits to former Auditor General Odysseas Michaelides. The issue surfaced following Michaelides’ public claims that he was being denied both his pension and a lump sum to which he is entitled.
According to sources cited by Philenews, President Christodoulides was briefed on the issue shortly before boarding his return flight from Greece, where he had concluded a two-day official visit. Expressing dissatisfaction, the president reportedly believes that Michaelides should receive his complete retirement benefits.
The dispute gained attention after a letter dated today, in which Michaelides addressed Cyprus’s Accountant General with the subject line: “Illegal withholding of my pension and other benefits.” In the letter, Michaelides expressed frustration over the Accountant General’s request for a legal opinion before approving the payment of his entitlements. “It is truly a disgrace for our country,” Michaelides wrote, emphasizing that he holds President Christodoulides ultimately responsible for the situation.
