Last Thursday PRONIA welcomed members, friends, and guests to its 51st Annual General Meeting held at the Brunswick offices.
The gathering featured the unveiling of the 2022-2023 report, highlighting achievements, and the presentation of the prestigious Volunteer of the Year award.
President Elpis Korosidis shared insights into the organisation’s accomplishments and hurdles over the past year, offering a glimpse into future plans.
Reflecting on the historical milestone, she noted, “2023 can be seen as either the 51st year of PRONIA’s existence or the inaugural year of the next 50,” placing emphasis on the pivotal adoption of a new constitution that sets the stage for PRONIA’s future endeavours.
Korosidis extended appreciation to Eugenia Mitrakas, acknowledging her instrumental role in drafting PRONIA’s original constitution in 1972. The new constitution, she emphasised, positions PRONIA for growth while upholding its status as a leading benevolent organisation.
The President also paid tribute to the late Dr Spiros Moraitis, co-founder of PRONIA, expressing a commitment to carrying forward his vision for the betterment of the Australian-Hellenic community.
CEO Tina Douvos-Stathopoulos presented a comprehensive report, underscoring the organization’s impactful services to 8,130 individuals and its crucial role in social work and advocacy for 2,750 clients, providing 6,292 hours of service.
Notable achievements included securing substantial grants for the ‘Stronger Together’ dementia project, ensuring culturally sensitive care in Melbourne and Tasmania.
Looking ahead, Mrs Douvos-Stathopoulos expressed confidence in PRONIA’s sustained relevance and evolution, rooted in a history of operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
The Annual General Meeting also featured Dr Josephine Antoniadis, Research Fellow at the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), who highlighted the importance of culturally appropriate care and evidence-based practices in serving diverse communities.
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Dana Iliadis as the Volunteer of the Year.
With over two decades of dedicated service, Ms Iliadis has become an integral part of PRONIA, providing unwavering support to over 15 clients and fostering connections within the community.
In a touching speech, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead a more authentic life through volunteering.
