The brightest season of the year is approaching, bringing with it the aromas, memories and family traditions that define Christmas across generations.
This year, Neos Kosmos invites readers to take part in our annual Christmas Diaspora Tribute, sharing the stories that shaped your holidays, both past and present.
We want to share your Christmas stories
- Your first Christmas in Australia: the culture shock of summer
For those who arrived in Australia during the 1950s–1970s, we want to revisit that unforgettable first Christmas under the scorching sun.
- How did it feel when the warmth replaced winter’s chill?
- When the backyard barbecue took the place of the fireplace?
- When holiday gatherings moved outdoors instead of the “good room” back in the village or town?
- Share moments of nostalgia, confusion, adaptation and that pivotal moment when you realised this new country had become home.
- Christmas traditions from your homeland
Tell us about the customs you grew up with:
- Which traditions have you kept alive?
- Which ones faded with time?
- Which rituals have you revived in Australia, passing them on to younger generations?
- Christmas through the eyes of the second and third generation
- How do you and your family celebrate Christmas today?
- What have you held onto from your Greek heritage?
- What has changed?
- And what new traditions have you created in a land where Christmas falls in the heart of summer?

Send us your photos
Old photographs from Greece or recent family Christmas moments in Australia will bring your stories to life and help us paint a rich, intergenerational portrait of Hellenic celebration.
How to participate
- Send your story (up to 500 words) and photos to: maria@neoskosmos.com.au
- Include your name and suburb
- Deadline: Monday 15 December 2025
Your stories and images will become part of this year’s festive edition as parts of a collective narrative connecting places, eras and generations.
Let’s celebrate Christmas together, bridging distances and keeping tradition alive through your memories.
