The Municipality of Sitia, emphasizing the promotion of the local gastronomic heritage, includes in the program of this year’s Summer Cultural Events “Kornaria 2025” a special Gastronomic Two-Day, on August 13 and 14. The organization aspires to offer a multidimensional experience, highlighting the flavors, traditions and history of the wider region.
August 13 – Sitia Cuisine Festival with the “Golden Hands”
The curtain opens on Wednesday, August 13, at 19:00, in the Central Square of Sitia, with the Sitia Cuisine Festival. The protagonists are the famous “Golden Hands” – the mothers, grandmothers and aunts of Sitia, who with passion and authenticity preserve and transmit the traditional recipes of the place, many of which have deep roots in time.
The event will be attended by the distinguished chef Dina Nikolaou, known for promoting Greek cuisine abroad, as well as the president of the Cretan Cuisine Festival Association, Lena Igoumenaki.
August 14 – Revival of Minoan Cuisine
On Thursday, August 14, at 19:00, the Ecomuseum of the Municipality of Sitia (formerly KEGE) will be transformed into the setting for a unique retrospective of Minoan Gastronomy. Ms. Chrysa Sofianou will present the revival of Minoan cuisine, using authentic Minoan vessels and raw materials of the time.
The experience will conclude with an experiential Symposium, accompanied by a scientific analysis of the Cretan-Minoan Diet, with the support of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (ELMEPA).
The action is part of the cultural initiatives of the Municipality of Sitia, which combine tradition with scientific knowledge, offering both residents and visitors a unique culinary and cultural experience.
