Charlotte and Oliver have once again claimed the top spots on South Australia’s list of most popular baby names for 2025, continuing long-running trends for both girls and boys.
For the second year in a row, Charlotte led the girls’ list, narrowly edging out Isla by just two registrations.
A total of 95 baby girls were named Charlotte in 2025, compared with 93 named Isla. Olivia slipped to third place, after previously challenging for the top position.
Among boys, Oliver remained the clear favourite, topping the list for an extraordinary 13th consecutive year. The name was given to 122 baby boys this year, maintaining its dominance across the state. Noah claimed second place with 108 registrations, narrowly ahead of Henry on 105.
Floral-inspired names also saw a notable rise in popularity, with Violet and Daisy both entering the girls’ top 10 after sitting outside the leading group last year.
The trend adds to the continued popularity of nature-themed names such as Lily and Hazel, which also featured prominently.
The top 10 girls’ names in South Australia for 2025 were Charlotte (95), Isla (93), Olivia (76), Harper (69), Hazel (69), Amelia (68), Elsie (66), Violet (66), Lily (61), Daisy (59) and Ruby (59).
For boys, the most popular names were Oliver (122), Noah (108), Henry (105), Leo (97), Theodore (94), Levi (77), Luca (76), Charlie (75), Elijah (75), Jack (70) and Oscar (70).
Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs, Greek Cypriot Australian Andrea Michaels said traditional names continued to resonate with South Australian families.
“Traditional names remained popular in 2025 and this year we’ve seen Charlotte – long a favourite of royalty – hold the top spot for South Australian baby girls for the second year running,” she said in a media release.
“Meanwhile, Oliver continued to be the most popular boys’ name for a remarkable 13th year in a row.”
She also noted the growing appeal of floral names, with Violet and Daisy joining established favourites such as Lily and Hazel in the top rankings.
Parents in South Australia have 60 days to register their newborns’ names with Births, Deaths and Marriages. The full list of the top 100 baby names for 2025 will be published online next year.
