The storm system that has been battering the Aegean islands since yesterday, causing flooding and widespread damage, will reach Cyprus tomorrow in a significantly weakened state, meteorological officials said on Tuesday.
“The low pressure system affecting the Greek islands is moving eastward and will reach Cyprus tomorrow,” meteorological officer Andreas Hadjigeorgiou told philenews. “It will have weakened considerably by the time it arrives. The conditions will not be comparable to those experienced in Greece,” he emphasised.
Despite the system’s reduced intensity, forecasters expect cloudy conditions with isolated showers or thunderstorms by afternoon, primarily in mountainous areas and the eastern half of the island.
The weather system is expected to move further eastward the following day, which meteorologists say will also help clear dust currently present in the atmosphere.
However, Hadjiyeorghiou clarified that unstable conditions appear to be developing in the region, meaning “rain phenomena will continue in the coming days.”
Temperatures are expected to remain slightly below seasonal norms throughout this period.
