The Beyond DisDance festival, which is dedicated to inclusive and accessible performing arts , is collaborating with Queer Wave to present two events exploring the intersections between crip and queer identity in Limassol.
The events, which are free to attend , will take place on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, at the Synergeio Performing Arts Centre.
The main event is the screening of the documentary Sylvia Robyn by Panayotis Evangelidis, starting at 20:30. The film, which won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at this year’s Queer Wave , is a caring and intimate portrayal of Sylvia Robyn Gionti, an autistic, non-binary trans artist living in Greece.
The screening will be presented in the context of a relaxed screening, which includes a range of features to create a comfortable environment for neurodivergent individuals and those who prefer a less “formal” setup. These adaptations include soft lighting, lower sound volume, and greater freedom for movement.
The protagonist, Sylvia Robyn Gionti, will be in attendance for the event. Following the 91-minute screening, she will join an open discussion with the audience.
Exhibition on autism
Preceding the film, the exhibition Seeing (Me) Through will be hosted at the same venue from 18:00 until 20:00. The exhibition is a triptych of portraits featuring works by Maria Philippou, Sylvia Robyn Gionti, and Mel Baggs, that thematically explore the lived experience of autism.
The exhibition challenges conventional expectations of visibility by revealing small, intimate moments and objects as acts of resistance to imposed norms. Some of Sylvia Robyn Gionti’s personal objects will be included in the exhibition and featured in a tactile tour conducted before the screening for visitors with visual impairments.
The event offers full accessibility, including subtitles in Greek and English, and live audio description. Beyond DisDance returns for its fourth edition in December 2025, having started in 2022 with the support of the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture. Queer Wave, the Cyprus LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, had its first edition in 2020.
