Teekay Tankers has continued to offload its ageing tonnage by selling its oldest LR2 unit.
S&P sources show the New York-listed firm is shipping out the 2007 Hyundai Heavy Industries-built 105,200 dwt Limerick Spirit to unnamed Greek interests for around $27.8m.
The Kenneth Hvid-led owner and operator has been improving the age profile of its product tanker fleet with three ships reported sold so far this year and one younger model brought in.
Earlier this year, sister ships the 2006-built Donegal Spirit and the 2007-built Galway Spirit were sold to Greek owner IMS, a familiar buyer of Teekay’s tonnage.
One broker has linked the Limerick Spirit sale to Greece’s Sea Trade Marine, the same company that acquired Teekay’s 2005-built suezmax Seoul Spirit in 2024 for $34.5m.
Teekay Tankers currently has eight LR2s, with the youngest built in 2019. This ship was acquired in February from the Greek owner Metrostar for $63m and renamed Semakau Spirit.
Including the most recent reported sales, the company let go of nine tankers year-to-date, all built between 2006 and 2009.
