The owner of the black Porsche involved in the serious car accident early Friday morning on the Thessaloniki–Moudania highway, outbound from the city, admitted to authorities that she was behind the wheel.
She is a 45-year-old businesswoman, owner of a beauty center and pawnshop, who, as confirmed, had consumed alcohol before driving and was still under the influence when tested later.
She was arrested and taken to the hospital for a blood sample to determine her exact blood alcohol level. At the same time, a case file is being compiled against her, with the case now moving forward to the justice system. According to later reports, her breathalyzer reading was over 0.8.
She admitted she was driving and claimed that friends of hers, following in another car, picked her up and took her to a hospital. However, according to the same sources, the police had not received any report from a hospital, despite searching from the moment of the crash, so for now this remains just her claim and is unconfirmed.
The injured victims out of danger
The accident occurred around 5 a.m., shortly past a well-known shopping center. According to eyewitnesses, the Porsche was traveling at a breakneck speed and rammed into another car, which was reduced to a mangled heap of metal from the impact. Inside the car were a 28-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both of whom were rushed to hospital.
Initially, the woman who was driving the car was hospitalized in critical condition. Now, however, both are out of danger. One is in a High Dependency Unit (HDU), and the other in a regular ward.
At first, there was confusion about who was driving the Porsche, as eyewitnesses claimed the driver had freed himself by breaking the sunroof and fled before police and paramedics arrived. However, Thessaloniki Traffic Police, after evaluating the evidence, identified the owner, who eventually confessed her involvement.
