Stefanos Tsitispas has lost his opening match at the Qatar Open, continuing his slump in form.
The Greek fell to injured Hamad Medjedovic 6(8)-7(8), 7-5, 6(5)-7(7), who played through the final 20 minutes on just one leg after suffering a hamstring injury in the third set.
With the Serbian struggling to move along the baseline, Tsitsipas hit back and levelled the scores before forcing the match into its second tiebreak.
The sixth seed would come back from a 4-1 deficit but the 26-year-old could not withhold the pressure from Medjedovic who went on to win.
Tsitsipas has slipped to No.11 in the world rankings and hasn’t been at his best for some time.
He reached the quarter final at the ATP Rotterdam and lost in the opening round at the Australian Open last month.
