Stefanos Tsitsipas has pulled out of the Greek national team in the Davis Cup World Group I.
The top ranked Greek player shared a statement on his Instagram saying that he’ll be playing in another tournament.
“It is with great regret that I inform you that I will not be able to participate in the matches of the National Team in the Davis Cup as a very important tournament for my career is taking place at the same time and I will need to focus all my energies on my preparation and participation in this,” the statement read.
“I am especially sorry because your support and love for the National Team and for me personally always fills me with strength and motivation. That’s why I’m looking forward to returning to my duties with the National Tea as soon as possible and playing for our country, as soon as conditions allow.
“I am sure that our National Team will give their best and fight with passion and determination.”
Recently Tsitsipas shockingly lost in the first round at the Australian Open and has now dropped to 13 in the world rankings, having once been World No.3.
