A Turkish Cypriot land registry employee has been arrested in the occupied north on charges of supplying documents and maps to five Greek Cypriots who allegedly entered the territory illegally.
The employee works for the “land registry department” and was detained today, according to Turkish Cypriot media reports.
The five Greek Cypriots entered through the Strovilia checkpoint, allegedly “violating the military zone” without completing crossing procedures, according to Kibris Postasi newspaper. “Authorities” confiscated maps, property titles and various documents from their vehicle.
The suspect appeared before the Famagusta “district court” today, where a “police investigator” said the documents found in a blue folder in the Greek Cypriots’ possession were provided by an estate agent, who obtained them from a worker at the Kyrenia “land registry department”.
The state agent was also arrested last week as part of the ongoing investigation by authorities in the north.
The “police investigator” requested the worker be held in custody for three days as investigations continue.
