The Turkish Ministry of National Defence (MSB) has released the English subtitled version of the “50th Year Documentary”, which recounts the events reflecting the Greek oppression experienced by the Turkish Cypriots, Kibris Postasi reported.
In a statement made on the Ministry’s social media account, it was stated that “You can watch the 50th Year Documentary, which is prepared by our Ministry and tells real facts instead of made-up scenarios, with English subtitles, instead of a fantasy series that contains great disrespect for the precious memories of our Turkish Cypriot brothers who were brutally massacred by Greek terrorists”.
The English subtitled version of the “50th Anniversary Documentary” was also included in the post.
Meanwhile, the Press and Public Relations Advisor of the Ministry of National Defence, Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, made the following statement at the press briefing he held at the Ministry: “It is clear that the black propaganda series ‘Famagusta’, which was announced to be broadcast on a digital platform, and similar provocative attempts will not benefit anyone, including the Greek side. Such futile efforts, which denigrate the Cyprus Peace Operation, which brought peace and tranquillity to both sides, and serve the cause of a deadlock, are damaging the security environment provided on the island“.
Aktürk had stated that the documentary, prepared by the Ministry of National Defence and telling of the events leading up to the Cyprus Peace Operation, would be broadcast on various platforms with English subtitles.
The documentary, according to the statement made by the ministry, can be viewed on X media platform, begins with the history of the island of Cyprus, conveying that the Turks and Greeks on the island lived in peace during the Ottoman period, and the conflicts that occurred after Britain annexed the island are explained in detail.
The documentary emphasises that the island of Cyprus has never been under Greek administration, and covers the inhumane massacres committed against Turks by terrorists who wanted to connect the island to Greece [Enosis] with the establishment of the EOKA terrorist organisation in 1955.
Included are accounts of those who were subjected to attacks by the Greeks, and also includes confessions of the brutal murders committed by the Greeks who were part of the EOKA terrorist organisation at the time.
The documentary portrays the establishment of the Turkish Resistance Organisation against Greek attacks, the resistance of the Turks in Erenköy, and the moments when the Turkish army landed on the island on July 20, 1974, through historical images.
For the documentary, which was created by the Photo Film and Visual Production Centre Command affiliated with the Press and Public Relations Consultancy of the Ministry of National Defence, filming was made in the regions where the operation took place, in the places where the EOKA Greek Terrorist Organisation committed massacres, in martyrs’ cemeteries, in Turkish troops stationed on the island, in historical areas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and in museums.
