No deaths from coronavirus were recorded in the past week, according to the HHS respiratory infections report. However, two new severe cases of flu were recorded, with hospitalization in MEDs.
More specifically, the EHRC report states:
Illness of Influenza – ILI (regardless of pathogen)
The number of cases of flu-like illness per 1,000 visits remains low, with small weekly fluctuations. In the last week it showed an increase compared to the previous week.
Severe Acute Respiratory Infection – SARI (regardless of pathogen)
The number of SARI cases per 1,000 visits remains low, with small weekly fluctuations. A small increase was seen during the week of September 22-28.
SARS-CoV2 virus – COVID-19 infection
Positivity resulting from all SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic tests in the territory showed an increase compared to the previous week.
Sporadic cases of intubations and deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the summer. One new intubation was recorded in the last week, while no new deaths were recorded.
During the summer season, a co-occurrence of LP.8.1, NB.1.8.1 and XFG (Variants Under Monitoring according to ECDC and WHO/EURO) strains is recorded, with a trend towards a gradual predominance of XFG. There is no evidence of an increased risk of severe disease for any of these strains, the EODY says.
Nationally, the weighted viral load in municipal wastewater for the territory is at moderate levels compared to historical data, showing an increase over last week. In the tested areas, the level of the load shows variations depending on the city.
Flu virus
Community influenza positivity (as estimated by the Sentinel PHC surveillance network) after week 15/2025 is below the epidemic threshold for seasonal activity (10%), with small weekly fluctuations. Positivity in secondary health care (as estimated by the SARI surveillance network) remains at very low levels.
Two new severe cases with ICU hospitalization were recorded in the last week, and no new deaths from laboratory-confirmed influenza were recorded. In addition, one severe case of laboratory-confirmed influenza with ICU hospitalization was reported retrospectively.
Respiratory syncytial virus – RSV
RSV activity is at very low levels, both in the community (Sentinel PHC surveillance network) and in hospitals (SARI surveillance network), with only sporadic positive samples recorded.
