We await reaction from the UN and the EU

Schools in occupied Rizokarpaso operate under a regime of intimidation and in an atmosphere of terror. They function with enormous difficulties, constantly battling obstacles deliberately placed by the occupying power for obvious reasons.
The appalling conditions in which schools operate in occupied Karpassia are nothing new. These are the realities of occupation under which the enclaved live and schools attempt to function.
The issue was discussed days ago in the Parliamentary Education Committee. Committee Chairman Pavlos Mylonas focused on the severe problems faced by schools in the occupied territories, at one point noting that it is “absolutely unacceptable that 17 children must meet Ministry staff in coffee shops”.
This alone speaks volumes about the climate that exists in Karpassia. It vividly illustrates how the enclaved live and how they’re treated by the occupation regime.
A Foreign Ministry representative attending the meeting reported that complaints are being lodged against occupying Turkey for its behaviour towards the enclaved.
The Education Minister herself stated that maintaining operational schools in the enclaved communities represents an issue of national importance and highlighted that the European Parliament showed interest when the matter was presented to MEPs.
The occupation authorities systematically attempt to undermine schools in occupied Rizokarpaso. This effort is longstanding and methodical.
It’s a calculated, ongoing strategy ultimately aimed at driving more enclaved Greek Cypriots out of the occupied territories. If they could ensure not a single enclaved person remained, they would do so.
By creating obstacles to schools’ operations, they believe they’ll force children to relocate to the free areas to attend school. The occupation regime’s tools are specific and deployed to maximum effect.
Barriers are raised against teacher appointments, textbook deliveries are delayed, and censorship is imposed.
The response from the government and parliament is predictable. Complaints are filed, and Turkish behaviour is exposed. We’ll await the reaction from the United Nations, the EU, and other organisations to Turkey’s systematic machinations, as education and schooling are sensitive and universal human rights.
Everywhere else, these rights are taken for granted. Except under Turkish rule. Because the occupying power’s policies are built on human rights violations.
