Weather: Gusty winds up to 8 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea – Extreme fire danger in 4 Regions
Source: ProtoThema English
The weekend is expected to see good weather and limited instability and showers, but the wind field will remain strong in the Aegean and temperatures will show a slight rise.
Yesterday strong north winds reaching up to 9 Beaufort mainly in the northern Cyclades kept ships tied up in ports since morning causing great inconvenience to those planning to travel to the islands. Of the 25 scheduled itineraries from Piraeus, only 19 were finally carried out, while many passengers cancelled or changed their tickets.
From the evening, traffic was gradually restored, while earlier in the day, alternative sailing plans were used to serve passengers, so that some ships could safely reach the ports of destination. However, the inconvenience for many passengers continues, as many are still waiting at agencies for ticket changes.
Although the winds will remain gusty today, no sailing ban has been announced from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio, so the ships have departed for their destinations as normal.
Based on the latest forecast data from Meteo.gr, a small and temporary improvement in pyrometeorological conditions (slight weakening of winds and recovery of moisture of thin dead forest fuels) occurred during the evening hours of Friday 8 August 2025 (21:00/22:00) until the early morning hours of Saturday 9 August 2025 (01:00/02:00), while then in the morning hours of Saturday, a renewed strengthening of the northern winds (7-8 Beaufort) is expected.
According to Open meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis, very strong and locally gusty winds are expected in Attica today.
