Week in Review: Farewells and Festive Cheer

A farewell party held by Albania’s Independent Qualifying Commission in mid-December marked the end of its work, after seven years. Those years saw more than half of the country’s judges and prosecutors fired or resigning for various reasons, chief among them unexplained wealth or ties to organised crime.
It would be tempting to think the job of cleaning up Albania’s judicial system is done. In reality, the vetting process was just the beginning, as our analysis points out.
