The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia has issued a statement to inform its faithful and the broader public about the existence of a fake profile on Facebook, under the name “Eminence Archbishop Makarios.”
The statement highlighted that the fake profile has illegally posted photos of Archbishop Makarios, which were taken from the internet, with the apparent intention of misleading other users.
The motives and further intentions behind this deception remain unknown.
The Archdiocese emphatically stated that” His Eminence does not have any accounts (profile or page) on Facebook. His only official social media presence is on Instagram”.
As a result, the Archdiocese urges the faithful and all Facebook users to ignore this fake profile and refrain from any interaction with it, particularly from sharing personal information.
The Archdiocese has taken the necessary steps to have the fake profile removed.
